Sundays with you,
where our roots start to grow,
we wander in awe,
as we venture, investigate and reflect on the place we now call home.
The artistry of the season they call Kambarang radiating into view,
golden-orange, honeyed hues, native Christmas trees start to bloom.
Tall and proud, ancient peppermint cascades estuary’s edge,
a gentle breeze unveiling fresh, invigorating scents.
Tiny ripples upon basalt rocks,
minuscule crabs scuttle and hop.
Trotting stints, social black swans,
basking cormorants enthralled by the eastern sun.
We manoeuvre through the shade of paperbark trees,
bracken ferns tickling us below the knees,
we laugh, we run, we laugh again,
if this is our forever home… I am content.
- Noongar: Kambarang – season of birth,
second Spring (October-November).
